As the competition between retailers in the same day delivery market continues to heat up it's remarkable that there has been little or no mention of Apple joining the fray, at least until now. With 2015 shaping up to be the year that same day delivery services really ignite in popularity we've been surprised that Apple haven't until now been officially represented but according to a new article published by Techcrunch that appears set to change.
The initial launch looks set to be small and focused, but it seems that Apple has partnered with on-demand delivery specialists Postmates to bring same day shipping for specific items from Apple Stores. Postmates' coverage has rapidly expanded to sixteen states in a number of larger cities and they are poised for further growth this year.
It is thought that San Francisco is likely to be the first test market with perhaps others to follow either simultaneously or shortly thereafter. Currently, a pilot app on Postmates allows a limited line of products from Apple with a four-hour delivery window in select markets.
Important to note also is that the article states that neither Apple nor Postmates have officially confirmed this future expanded partnership but with same day delivery advancing so quickly it's likely only a matter of time until Apple make their first large-scale and well publicized move. We'll be waiting to see how this develops and expect more news later this year.
