Apple launches same day delivery services in the Big Apple

The market for same day delivery services in New York City now has another competitor added just in time for the holiday season with news that the Apple Store has added same day services via courier for the majority of the city. Until now Apple had only been experimenting with same day delivery on a very limited basis in the San Francisco Bay Area but only for a limited number of zip codes.

The New York City trial looks to be far more comprehensive with about 80% of the zip codes in the city covered according to some recent experimentation by tech curious bloggers in addition to a few outlying areas. It seems that the full roll out of same day services is still ongoing and may even be expanded further, just as importantly if it is deemed a success it's quite plausible that similar services may be added by Apple to additional cities in the new year.

'Apple delivery' has been added as an active feature on the company's website as well as on their mobile apps. Unlike many retail same day delivery services we've seen launched so far in 2015 Apple are launching the service with one simple flat courier fee of $19 for the zip codes that are served. It's also interesting to see that the rate is higher than most retailers and probably is more sustainable as a result.  

Delivery services for the flat rate fee are suggesting delivery within a two hour window so long as the order is placed during normal business hours, full details are on the Apple website. It's also worth noting that the same day service is for selected products only but not all at this time, which reinforces indications that this is a trial phase for the new service. Rumours earlier in the year suggested that delivery fulfilment for Apple would be provided by Postmates but we're unable to confirm this at the time of writing.
