Amazon continues to accelerate their rate of adding new cities to their Prime same day delivery portfolio as we wrote about here on our previous post when they added Baltimore, Miami, and Dallas just last month. This news has been rapidly followed up with the addition of Atlanta as the newest city for selected zip codes according to Geekwire, we don't expect the roster of cities to slow down at any point soon.
Phoenix is the latest city to see the addition of a new same day delivery provider with Phoenix-basedPikFly. This service though is quite different to many we've seen recently as PikFly is essentially an online marketplace dedicated to local, independent merchants looking to offer same day delivery. Big news from Canada as a large retailer decides that shipping at zero profit is patently unsustainable as Wal-Mart Canada decides to cease unlimited free shipping for online orders. The decision makes sense especially as it comes in tandem with the news that Target Corporation are setting up to cease operations at all of their more than 125 Canadian locations. With no apparent reservations about their choice of company name, Burpy, an Austin, Texas-based same day delivery company that to date has specialized in groceries are expanding same day services to include deliveries of new car purchases. The company have linked with a number of car dealerships in Texas allowing Burpy customers to browse, order, and receive personal delivery of a chosen car within three hours for a flat fee of $99. CNN Money had an interesting feature about Amazon recently which included a look inside their first ever 'bricks and mortar' store location at Purdue University in Indiana. The service allows free delivery for all prime members which also offers a substantial student discount, the word is that more University locations are in the pipeline.
